Michael Vigil Gallery Michael Vigil grew up with two rich legacies: an artistic family and the Hispanic culture. As a high school student, he took every art course available to him, but he considers his father, the prominent late painter Veloy Vigil, his greatest influence. He worked in both his father's frame shop and later in his father's print shop where he did printing for other artists. The greatest challenge he had to over come was developing a body of work that was unique and not derivative to his father's style. Eventually Michael found his own inimitable form of expression on whimsical, poignant and sometimes humorous series of paintings which featured women.

He bathes these subjects in that particular quality of light which is so characteristic of Taos. And into his paintings, he pours his belief in the ineffable spirit which resides in this special place.
